Advocacy Opportunity, Improve Reasonable Accommodations For Guide Dog Handlers At US Airports

If you are a guide dog handler or if you care to assist in advocating for reasonable accommodations for guide dog handlers, please read and take action on the following information which GDUI has received today and is sharing.

The public comment that is referred to in the below letter from the FAA was public comment back at the time that I served as GDUI's Legislative Committee Chairperson. The comment opportunity came about due to our committee's work with TSA that prompted TSA to publish guidance for airports about service dog relief areas. GDUI participated in that public comment opportunity and publicized it widely at the time. GDUI actually facilitated public comment by those of us who are blind by providing user-friendly links directly to the public comment pages since those government-provided pages were unacceptably difficult for screen-readers to use. The public comment on the topic from guide dog handlers alone amounted to almost 400 unique letters of comment from interested guide dog handlers and this clear message was successful in getting the ball rolling for positive change!

Now, it's time to take the next step in the process to advocate for user-friendly reasonable accommodations for guide dog handlers who travel via air.

Thanks for your support in this important process!

The following important opportunity for our comment has been offered to us by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Please read on and please provide your constructive input to the FAA on this important issue for all travelers who travel assisted by a guide dog.

Thank you,

Laurie Mehta - President, GDUI
